The Guineas Head for Higher Ground
This weekend, the water persistently flowing through our basement from the Spring runoff forced us to truck our guinea fowl, about two weeks earlier than we had planned, out to their coop in the barn.
To keep them warm and safe from drafts, we added a second heat lamp and lined their stall with rigid styrofoam insulation (a leftover from previous owners, scattered with hoof impressions- presumably used once upon a time to insulate the goat stables).
Four days later (now, about 4 and a half weeks old) they seem to be getting along quite well out there – squawking away, perching on the jungle gym I built for them out of an old window frame and some scraps from the wood shop and, with any luck, gearing up to lay siege on our rampant tick population when we release the little guys in a few months.
